What is the lead time for orders?

The standard lead time for pot (aka area) stainless steel drains is very short as we stock most all outlet sizes. For large orders >30, typically need 3-7 days to fabricate your drain order.

Stainless Steel Trench drains are made-to-order with your specifications. We have many designs already drawn up, so if you chose one of our standard design, these can typically be fabricated in 7-14 days. The current situation of material availability (7/2023), raw material deliveries from our suppliers is critical.

When we submit our quote for your review and consideration, we have a firm commitment from our suppliers for your stainless material delivery. Suppliers are only guaranteeing 3-4 day quote at the time being (7/2023).

Do you fabricate Stainless Steel Trench Drains ?

Yes, we offer a classic range of trench drains. 80% of our business is fabricating ‘Open Trough’ and ‘Slot Drains’.

Open trough trenches come standard with Bar Grating, or optional “solid Plate” with perimeter drainage. These are mostly utilized in commercial - industrial buildings where forklifts and pallet jacks are used extensively.

Slot Drains are extremely useful and economical, not to mention ascetically appealing. Easily sanitized due to lack of gratings or covers.

Stainless Trenches are available in any length with many different sizes according to the requirements of volume flow. In general, most ‘open trough’ trenches are between 4” and 12” wide, with required depths to hold all water and move debris towards the sump (cleanup basket) to prevent back-ups onto the factory floor.

If our standard options don’t work for the project, we can custom make a trench drain to meet the customers’ specific requirements.

Where are drains shipped from ?

Trench drains are fabricated at our shops (2) in the mid-west of the United States. For this, shipping is centrally located between the East Coast and West Cost. Transit times to either coast is 3-5 days depending on the location.

What standards do your drains meet?

Yes, all of our drains meet the USDA, FDA, CFIA sanitary standards for the food processing, pharmaceutical, beverage, and dairy industries.

What kind of Stainless Steel do you use?

At CustomDrains we only use Stainless Steel that is made in the USA. All drains come in T304 stainless, with 316L Stainless as an option.

Stainless steel is available in various ‘grades’ – these ‘grades’ differ as a result of the composition and the other alloys used in the manufacture of the material. This results in a slight variation in physical properties between the different grades.

304 grade is a high-quality food-grade stainless steel widely used for worktops and sinks. Therefore, it is stain-resistant in normal use, will not rust, and is suitable as a surface for direct food preparation. It also has limited resistance to chemicals. As a result, it is used widely in the catering, healthcare, washroom, and veterinary sectors.

316 grade is a high-quality grade of stainless steel, with added alloys in the material that increases its resistance to acids and other corrosive chemicals. Products produced from 316-grade stainless are generally installed in laboratories or industrial settings, where acids and other corrosive chemicals are more commonplace.

What is the environmental impact of stainless ?

Stainless steel is 100% recyclable - thus it is the “real Green Deal’ in LEED design build.

Due to its excellent corrosion resistance, high strength and attractive appearance, stainless steel sees a wide range of uses across both industrial and consumer markets.

But how does stainless steel go from a pile of scrap or refined ores to its final shape and application?

Most stainless steel starts life in a similar manner before heading off to processing. This processing—along with the exact composition of the steel alloy—determine its many characteristics.

So to understand how stainless steel is produced, we must first dive into its composition.

What is Stainless Steel?

Stainless steel is an iron and chromium alloy.

While stainless must contain at least 10.5% chromium, the exact components and ratios will vary based on the grade requested and the intended use of the steel.

The exact composition of an alloy is strictly measured and assessed throughout the alloying process to ensure the steel exhibits the required qualities.

The common reasons to add other metals and gasses to a stainless steel alloy include:

  • Increased corrosion resistance
  • High temperature resistance
  • Low temperature resistance
  • Improved strength
  • Improved weldability
  • Improved formability
  • Controlling magnetism
